VILLANUEVA, OLIVEIRA EARN 1ST-TEAM ALL-KJCCC HONORS

A pair of Hutchinson Community College volleyball players were named to the first team of the 2025 All-Jayhawk Conference Division I Volleyball team on Friday.
Sophomore transfer outside hitter Alondra Villanueva and freshman libero Clara Oliveira were named to the first team. They were the only Blue Dragons to earn postseason honors.
The Blue Dragons (15-17) finished in a tie for tie for sixth place in the KJCCC this season. Seeded sixth in the Region 6 Tournament, the Blue Dragons upset No. 3-seed Butler in the opening round on Wednesday with a reverse sweep of the Grizzlies, winning 15-13 in the fifth set. Hutchinson is set to make its first Region 6 semifinal appearance since 2022 at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Region 6 semifinals against No. 2-seed Colby at Gross Memorial Coliseum in Hays.

ALONDRA VILLANUEVA – 1st Team Outside Hitter
A 5-foot-11 sophomore from Lima, Peru, Villanueva transferred to Hutchinson after spending her freshman season at Odessa College.
This season Villanueva averaged 3.38 kills on .183 hitting. She also averaged 3.00 digs, 0.86 blocks and 0.11 service aces per set.
Villanueva has tallied a team-high 15 double-doubles this season.
Villanueva notched 24 matches of double-figure kills with a career-high 30 kills against Butler on October 1. She also had 22 kills against Missouri State-West Plains on September 27. She had four matches of 20 or more digs, including a career-best 27 against Barton on October 4 and 25 against Garden City on September 13.
CLARA OLIVEIRA – 1st Team Libero
The 5-3 freshman libero from Matonsinhos, Portugal, has had an impressive season. With 625 digs through the opening round of the Region 6 Tournament, Oliveira is second on the Blue Dragons freshman digs and third on the overall single-season digs lists.
Only once in 32 matches has Oliveira failed to reach double figures in digs. For the season, she is averaged 5.09 digs per set with 11 matches of 20 or more digs and three matches of 30 or more digs.
Oliveira had a Blue Dragon single-match record 35 digs in a victory at Seward County on October 25. She also had 33 digs against Barton on October 4 and 33 digs against Garden City on September 13.
In addition to her defensive prowess, Oliveira is one of the Blue Dragons top servers. She has 48 aces this year, which averages to 0.41 aces per set. Oliveira had 12 aces against the Southwestern JV in the Blue Dragon Volleyball Classic on September 27. She had a conference-high five aces against Garden City on September 13.
Oliviera leads the KJCCC with 601 digs and is tied for fifth in aces with 48.
