MONROE, Louisiana – Sophomores Kaylee James and Taylor Hoskinson advanced to finals in their respective events to highlight a light schedule for the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team at the 2024 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships on Friday at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

James, who entered the national championships ranked fifth in the women's 100-meter hurdles, advanced to Saturday's finals with a qualifying time of 14.06 seconds, the sixth-fastest mark in the finals. James will run her final at 1:35 p.m. on Saturday.

Hoskinson, who was part of Hutchinson's All-America 4x800-meter relay on Thursday, earned a spot in the finals of the 1,500 meters. Hoskinson qualified 11th with a time of 4:49.30. She entered the nationals ranked 30th in the nation in the 1,500 meters.

The Blue Dragons scored 0.33 points on Saturday to increase their meet total to 4.33 points.

Freshman Brooke Hawkins tied for eighth in the women's high jump after clearing 5 feet, 4 1/2 inches (1.63 meters).

The Blue Dragons are 22nd in the team standings after two days. Barton leads the team race with 61 points. Cloud County is second with 45 points.

Other Blue Dragons to complete on Friday were:
+ Ellie Van Zelfden and Abigail Grantham, two others members from Thursday's 4x800 relay team that broke a school record, didn't qualify for the 1,500-meter finals. Van Zelfden was 14th in a time of 4:52.23. Grantham was 22nd with a time of 5:04.13.

+ Liberty Limon placed 15th in the high jump with a clearance of 5-2 1/4 (1.58m).

+ Emile Schweizer was 15th in the shot put at 38-0 1/4.

In addition to James and Hoskinson's final appearance, the Dragons have four other athletes competing on Saturday:
+ Hawkins will compete in the triple jump at 11 a.m.

+ Jenna Kuepker, the fourth-ranked javelin thrower in the nation, will throw at 1 p.m.

+ Serenity Larson and Jordyn Picolet will both run in the 5,000 meters at 3:25 p.m.
