SOERGEL NAMED NJCAA NATIONAL KEEPER OF THE WEEK
Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The national leader in shutouts just happens to be Hutchinson Community College women's soccer goalkeeper Chiara Soergel.
With her 10th and 11th shutouts of the season last week, Soergel was named the NJCAA Division I Women's Soccer National Goalkeeper of the Week on Wednesday. The freshman from Bensheim, Germany, earned her 11th shutout of the season later in the day when Hutchinson defeated Pratt 4-0.
Soergel is the first Blue Dragon goalkeeper to earn national honors since Vickie Dukart in 2013.
Soergel didn't make a save in an 8-0 win at Hesston College last week and then had three saves in a 6-0 win over Dodge City.
With Wednesday's win, Soergel is now 12-2 with 12 shutouts. She has a league-leading 0.24 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage. Soergel has already set the Blue Dragon freshman goalkeeper record for shutouts and is second on the single-season list. The record is 15 shutouts set by Mandy Stapleton in 2010.
