The equation is simple for the Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team if it wants at least a share of the Jayhawk West championship … win out.
Winners of three in a row since a September 25 loss to league front-runner Cloud County, the Blue Dragons look to keep their opportunity alive for a West title at 6 p.m. on Saturday when Dodge City comes to the Salthawk Sports Complex.
The Blue Dragons are 10-2 overall and 8-1 (24 points) in the Jayhawk West. The Dragons trail Cloud County by six points in the West with a 10-0 mark.
Hutchinson comes off one of its best overall performances on Wednesday after an 8-0 victory over Hesston College. Sophomore Naomi Waithira had a career-high four assists and career-high-tying two goals in the victory over the Larks. Waithira now has a KJCCC-high 13 assists for the season. Teammate Marah Franke is third in the Jayhawk with 11 assists.
After winning three games in a row, including a 2-1 overtime victory over Pratt, Dodge City has lost games to Cloud County (2-1) and Barton (1-0). The Conquistadors have allowed just four goals in their last six games.
Hutchinson defeated Dodge City in the first meeting, winning 3-0 on September 18 at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City. Chavelle Henry had two goals and Samantha Vaughn had the third tally for the Dragons, which outshot Dodge City 13-3.
