Bio
Former Blue Dragon Women’s Basketball Player Brenna McClure begins her collegiate coaching career at Hutchinson Community College for the 2025-26 women’s season.
Playing for head coach John Ontjes, McClure played for the Blue Dragons in the 2016-17 season. She missed her first season in 2015-16 with an injury. McClure made a splash in her eventual Blue Dragon debut with a program single-game record 11 steals against the Tabor College JV on November 1, 2016. She neared triple-double territory in that game with nine points and eight assists.
For her career, McClure played in 35 games and averaged 8.4 points, 2.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 2.8 steals per game. McClure shot 44.4 percent overall, 39.4 percent from 3-point range and 85.2 percent from the free-throw line. McClure 100 steals in the 2016-17 season, which is fifth-most in Hutchinson single-season history and second-most by a Blue Dragon freshman. She ranked third in the Jayhawk Conference with 2.8 steals and sixth in assists with 3.8 assists per game.
McClure had a career-high 19 points in a 77-71 victory over Cowley on February 17, 2017. She had 10 games scoring in double figures.
After playing for the Blue Dragons, McClure moved on to play at the University of Arkansas for one season in 2017-18.
With her degree in social work, McClure started working for the Arkansas DCFS, specializing in adoptions of children. Working there from 2020 to 2025, McClure finalized 140 adoptions and was named the DCFS Employee of the Year in 2024.
Playing for the Blue Dragons wasn’t her first appearance at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. As a junior, McClure’s Lyons High School girls team advanced all the way 2014 Class 3A state championship game, finishing as the 3A state runner-up. Entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed, McClure and the Lions defeated No. 1 Riley County and No. 5 Nemaha Valley to earn a spot in the finals.
McClure’s brother Trey was also a Blue Dragon, playing for the Hutchinson men’s basketball team from 2021 to 2023.
McClure was a 2015 graduate of Lyons High School, a 2017 graduate of Hutchinson Community College with a degree in Sports Management and a 2019 graduate at the University of Arkansas with Bachelors of Science degree in Social Work.
She has a 5-year-old Pitbull named Kenzo.
