BLUE DRAGONS FACE QUICK TURNAROUND TO MEET INDEPENDENCE

Thanks to the weekend winter storm and the postponement of last Saturday's game against Butler, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team faces a 48-hour turnaround for a Wednesday Jayhawk Conference contest.
Now ranked No. 20 in the NJCAA national rankings, the Blue Dragons (15-5, 10-4 KJCCC) plays host to the Independence Pirates (4-16, 1-13 KJCCC) at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 5:15 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will be streamed for free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Hutchinson's short turnaround includes rebounding from a tough 56-52 loss to now No. 4 Butler. Since, John Ontjes has been the head coach at Hutchinson, the Blue Dragons are 67-6 following a loss.
Noelle Anthon, Whitney Brown and Delora Precop led the Blue Dragons against Butler on Monday with 11 points each.
Sophomore Jaden Wilson had a team- and career-high nine rebound. Over her last three games, Wilson has averaged 9.3 points and 7.7 rebounds. In her 10 games as a starter, Wilson has averaged 4.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.
Independence has lost its last nine games after earning its only conference victory, a 61-55 win over Fort Hays Tech Northwest on December 3 in Goodland.
The Pirates also had the same 48-hour window to prepare for Hutchinson. Independence lost 70-33 to Coffeyville on Monday night. Mimi White and Phillipa Ferguson had nine points lead to lead the Pirates against the Red Ravens.
Hutchinson earned its eighth-straight win over Independence on November 25 when the Blue Dragons defeated the Pirates 83-46 at Independence.
The Blue Dragons shot 45.7 percent and had four players score in double figures led by Katie Duncan's 21 points. Whitney Brown had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists. White had 11 points and Nyah Chandler had 10 points for Independence.
Wednesday's game is the 60th all-time matchup between Hutchinson and Independence. The Blue Dragons lead the all-time series 44-15, including 17-2 in games played at the Sports Arena.
