GRIMES, LONEY SWEEP LEAGUE SOFTBALL HONORS

The Hutchinson Community College softball team swept Jayhawk Conference weekly honors on Wednesday.

Freshman third baseman Madison Grimes was named the KJCCC's Division I Softball Player of the Week. Teammate Sadie Loney was the conference's Pitcher of the Week. Both had exceptional starts to the season in Hutchinson's doubleheader sweep of Fort Scott last Friday at Fun Valley.

Grimes has as memorable a collegiate debut as any Blue Dragon in team history against Fort Scott. Grimes went a combined 6 for 8 with two home runs and five RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of the Greyhounds.

Grimes, a freshman from Andale, was a simple 2 for 3 in Game 1, a 3-0 Hutchinson victory. She was spotless on five defensive chances.

Grimes exploded in the second game, going 4 for 5. She hit two home runs and drove in five, scoring five runs. Grimes was part of a six home-run explosion in a 27-0 win over Fort Scott. The six homers and 27 runs tied for second most in single-game Blue Dragon history.

Loney was locked in a good ol' fashioned pitchers' duel in the first game. The freshman from Oak Grove, Missouri, earned the victory in a 3-0 Blue Dragon win.

Threw six shutout innings and combined with Samarah Bailey for a shutout.

Loney struck out a career-high nine over her six innings. She allowed just two hits and walked three. Only once did Loney have multiple runners on base and only one baserunner reached third base.

Loney used 91 pitches over her six innings.
