The Hutchinson Community College men's and women's cross country teams run in their first full-length races of the 2019 season on Saturday at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, MO.
The Blue Dragon women, ranked No. 17 in the latest USTFCCCA Division I NJCAA Rankings, will race at 8 a.m. against NCAA Division I, NAIA and other junior college competition.
Hutchinson's men, ranked No. 7 in the national rankings, won the college division at the Stampede last season. The Blue Dragons this season will run against the NCAA Division I and II teams in the University race, which begins at 9:45 a.m.
Defending national champion Andrew Kibet won the college division race last season with a time of 24:42.6.
He will be battling a 27-team field on Saturday with teams from Oral Roberts, Dallas Baptist and several Division II powers among the other teams running.
The Blue Dragon women will be in a 24-team field with Jayhawk Conference rivals Allen, Pratt, Fort Scott, Cowley, Coffeyville and Butler also in the field.
This will be the first of two-straight weeks the Blue Dragons will compete. Next week, Hutchinson runs at the Emporia State Invitational on Friday, September 27. This will be the only time in 2019 that the Blue Dragons will run on consecutive weekend.
