Bio

Hired in April of 2026, Connor Deakin takes over the Hutchinson Community College cross country program and will serve as an assistant coach for the Blue Dragon track and field teams.

Deacon is the seventh Blue Dragon men’s cross country head coach and sixth women’s head coach in the program’s history.

Deacon comes to Hutchinson from Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona. He served an assistant coach for both cross country and track at field with the Vaqueros for in 2024-25 and 2025-26.

While at CAC, Deakin helped guide two Region 1 men’s championship teams and two Region 1 women’s championship teams. The Central Arizona women finished ninth at the NJCAA National Championships in 2024 and 11th in 2025. The Vaquero men were 10th in 2024 and fifth in 2025.

Deakin coached four NJCAA Americans at Central Arizona.

Before CAC, Deakin was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.

With Pima, Deakin helped produce one Region 1 men’s championship team and two runner-up reginal finishes. The Pima women were Region 1 runner-up three times.

On the track, Deacon mentored three first-place Region 1 finishes and one runner-up finish. The women won one Region 1 title and were runner-up three times.

Deacon mentored eight NJCAA Track All-Americans with one national runner-up placer in the men’s mile. Pima had two Top 10 team finishes.

As a collegiate athlete, Deakin  specialized in the 5,000 meters and 3,000-meter steeplechase. He achieved two all-region finishes in 2018 at Pima College. 

Deacon graduated from Ironwood Ridge High School in Tucson in 2017. Deacon went from Pima to the University of Arizona, where he graduated with a BA in Marketing and earned a sports management certification.

Deakin and his wife, Angie, have been married one year.
