FOUR SCHOOL RECORDS FALL ON DAY 1 OF NJCAA’S

LUBBOCK, Texas – The 2025 Hutchinson Community College men's track and field team's assault on the Blue Dragon record book continued on Friday during Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor National Championships at Texas Tech's Sports Performance Center.
Four school records were broken on Day 1 of the competition. The Blue Dragons scored seven team points on opening day and are 14th with 6 of 20 events completed.

Sophomore long jumper Elisha Williams smashed his own Blue Dragon record in the long jump on Friday finishing third in the events, the highest Blue Dragon placing of Day 1. Williams, who became the first Blue Dragon to reach 25 feet in the indoor long jump, soared past that with a school-record jump of 25 feet, 3 3/4 inches.
Sophomore Leo LeGrand advanced to Saturday's finals of the 800 meters. He, too, broke his own school record in the event. LeGrand was third in qualifying with a Blue Dragon-record time of 1:52.49. LeGrand's old record was 1:53.06 set earlier this season. The men's 800 final is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
The Blue Dragon 5,000-meter record was broken for the third time this season, this time by sophomore Titus Kiprotich, who finished eighth in Friday's final with a school-record time of 4:33.97. The old record was by teammate Farrin Mangelson of 14:35.35 set earlier this season.
Sophomore D'Antonio Warren claimed the fourth Blue Dragon record of the day on Friday. Warren ran 21.32 in the 200-meter preliminaries on Friday, placing 12th. Warren surpassed the 2019 record of Alex Grays of 21.33 seconds.
Other Blue Dragon performances on Day 1:
+ Mangelson placed 10th in the 3,000-meter final with a tie of 8:25.15. Cornelius Kogo placed 22nd with a time of 9:00.48.
+ Da'Shawn Lester posted a personal-best time and the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history in the 600-meter prelims. He was 12th in a time of 1:19.66. Williams was 17th in the 600 prelims with a time of 1:22.49.
+ Sprinter Kebba Makalo didn't advance to the 60 or 200 finals. His 60-meter time of 6.77 seconds tied a PR, which is the fifth-fastest in Blue Dragon indoor history and was 16th on Friday in the prelims. Makalo's 200 time of 21.55 was 26th.
+ Jayce Spencer placed 13th in the pole vault at 14-2 1/2 (4.33 meters).
Blue Dragon athletes will be competing in four events on Saturday beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Malique Parkinson in the triple jump.
