NEWTON – The No. 2-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team will need a final-round comeback to retain its Region 6 Championship it won in 2024.
Leading by four strokes after 18 holes, the Blue Dragons saw Dodge City surge past them in the second round and Hutchinson will trail the Conquistadors by four strokes heading into Tuesday morning's final round at Sand Creek Station in Newton.

The Blue Dragons posted back-to-back rounds of 291 for a 36-hole total of 582 on Monday. Dodge City shot 295 in the opening round, but shot 5-under 283 in the afternoon round to lead the tournament at 578. Garden City is third at 597 (296-301).
Four Blue Dragon individuals reside in the Top 10 after 36 holes led by 2025 Jayhawk Conference champion Charlie Box, who had consecutive rounds of 3-under 69 on Monday to build a one-stroke lead at 138 after 36 holes over Dodge City's Rhys Nicholas (69-70—139).
The final round is Tuesday with three-man groups going off of hole No. 1 beginning at 8:30 a.m. Blue Dragon golfers tee off from 9:30 to 10:20 a.m.
The Blue Dragons built a four-stroke lead after 18 holes, counting scores from Box (69), Louis Ross (70), Jack Northgraves (75) and Jaydon Carruthers (77). Dodge City shot 291 in the first round.
The Dragons counted scores in the second round from Box. (69), Carruthers (73), Ross (74) and David Razinskas (75). Dodge City was eight strokes better in the afternoon round at 283.
Ross is tied for third individually at even-par 144 after rounds of 70 and 74 on Monday. Ross birdied his final hole in the opening round to finish at 2-under 70. He is tied with Garden City's Ilan Dufernoy for third at 144.
Carruthers and Blue Dragon individual Cal Schultz are in a three-way tie for 10th after two rounds at 6-over 150. Carruthers struggled in the first round with a 77, but improved to 1-over 73 in the afternoon round. Schultz had back-to-back rounds of 75 on Monday.
Blue Dragon individuals Tyler Walker and Corey Scullion are tied for 13th at 151. Walker had rounds of 76 and 75, while Scullion had rounds of 77 and 74 on Monday.
Razinskas is 20th overall at 154 (79-75). Northgraves is 21st at 155 (75-80).
After winning their sixth-straight Jayhawk Conference championship last week in Manhattan, the Blue Dragons are bidding for their fifth Region 6 championship in the last six seasons.
