Former Dragon DeVondre Campbell drafted in 4th Round by Falcons

Former Hutchinson Community College football player De'Vondre Campbell became the third former player since 2013 to be drafted in the NFL Draft.

On Saturday, Campbell was drafted in the fourth round by the Atlanta Falcons with the 105th overall selection.

Campbell and Markus Golden, last year's second-round draft pick of the Arizona Cardinals, become the first Blue Dragons ever to be drafted in back-to-back drafts.

Campbell is also the second former Blue Dragon to be selected by the Falcons. Atlanta drafted former Blue Dragon All-American Mack Herron in the sixth round of the 1970 draft.

In his one season at HCC in 2012, Campbell was a second-round all-Jayhawk Conference linebacker. The outside linebacker from Fort Myers, Fla..

He was second on the 2012 Blue Dragon team – 9-3 and Salt City Bowl champions – in tackles with 83 total stops, including 21 unassisted tackles. He also had three quarterback sacks, one interception and two passes broken up. That interception was returned for a touchdown against Fort Scott.

After HCC, Campbell went to the University of Minnesota. He played in 39 games over three years with the Golden Gophers.

He started in 11 of 13 games in his senior season and finished third on the 2015 team with 92 tackles, including 6.5 tackles for loss and a team-high four sacks. He was named All-Big 10 Honorable mention honors as a senior.
