The Hutchinson Community College baseball team scored the second-most runs in program history with six different pitchers combined for a three-hit shutout as the Blue Dragons rolled to a run-rule 27-0 victory over the Sterling College junior varsity on Tuesday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Blue Dragons improved to 31-16 overall and will open a Jayhawk West four-game series vs. Garden City on Friday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The last time the Blue Dragons scored 25 or more runs was March 14, 2018 when they scored a program single-game record 28 runs against North Iowa Area at Hobart-Detter Field. This was the fourth time the Blue Dragons have scored 25 or more runs in a single game.
The Blue Dragons racked up 18 hits and took advantage of eight Warrior errors. Hutchinson scored four runs in the first and seven in the second to take an 11-0 lead. The Dragons added one run in the fourth, six in the fifth and nine runs in the sixth inning. Hutchinson also racked up six stolen bases.
Freshman Finn Hochstein led the Blue Dragons offensively, going 3 for 6 with a double, his second home run of the season, four runs scored and five RBIs. All of those marks were season highs for Hochstein.
Cael Hamrick was 2 for 3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs.
Anthony Mazza, Taber Stokes and Jack Gardner all had two hits. Jarrett Herrmann added a home run. The Dragons had seven doubles and two home runs.
Josh Cline tied a Blue Dragon single-game record with four walks in the game.
Starting pitcher Gabe Perry tossed two scoreless innings with two hits allowed in earning the pitching win. A.J. Doll, Jake Wolcott, Beau Pasteur, Reece Usselman and Aiden Doty all pitched scoreless innings. The Blue Dragon bullpen combined for 12 strikeouts.
