DRAGONS EXPLODE IN EXTRA INNINGS TO DEFEAT REBELS

HILLSBORO, Texas – The Blue Dragon bullpen tossed 5 2-3 innings of shutout one-hit ball and kept the Hutchinson Community College baseball team in the game until the offense woke up in extra innings on Saturday at Hill College.
Tied 1-1 through nine innings, the Blue Dragons erupted for seven runs in the top of the 11th to defeat the Rebels 8-1.
The Blue Dragons improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 on the Texas weekend road trip. The Blue Dragons close the road trip on Sunday at No. 6 McLennan
Held to just two hits through 10 innings, Cody Gunderson led off the 11th with a double to left-center field. Gunderson scored on the next pitch; Colin Cymbalista tripled to center to give the Blue Dragons the lead. Cymbalista then scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-1.
The Blue Dragons scored the third run of the inning, Blake Bradford's groundout scored Cooper Wesslund for a 4-1 lead. Then with two outs, Will Edmunson singled in Kael Babin and Christian Powell for a 6-1 Hutchinson lead. A Hill error led to Edmunson and Ryan Henderson scoring to complete the seven-run inning for an 8-1 lead.
Reed Scott worked a 1-2-3 bottom of the 11th with three groundouts to close out the victory.
Three Blue Dragon pitchers held Hill to one run and two hits over 11 innings.
Starter Justin Smith worked the first 5 1-3 innings. He allowed just one hit and one earned run while striking out five and walking two.
Ethan Giesbrecht struck out three and walked one in 1 2-3 innings of scoreless relief.
Scott (1-0) worked a career-long four innings with four strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Scott allowed just one hit.
The Blue Dragons out-hit Hill 5-2 with five different Hutchinson players collecting one hit each. Henderson drove in two runs while Bradford and Cymbalista had the other RBIs.
The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After Bradford reached on a single, he moved to third on an error off the bat of Edmunson and scored on a passed ball for a 1-0 lead. Hill tied the game in the bottom of the fourth since a single run on a groundout.
