Coming off its best overall performance of the season last Saturday, the Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team moved up two spots in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Division I Women's Rankings released on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragon men dropped out of the Top 5 of the USTFCCCA NJCAA Division I Men's Rankings, but are No. 7 in the organization's third ranking period of the season.

Both Hutchinson teams finished second at the Fort Hays State Tiger Open on Saturday in Victoria. The only other race in the last rankings period was at Emporia State, where the women finished 11th and the men third, just one point behind national No. 1 Cloud County.

The Blue Dragon women are the third-highest ranked team from Region VI. Cowley is No. 7 and Butler is No. 12. Pratt at No. 20 and Colby at No. 21 are the other ranked Region VI teams.

Iowa Central, Southern Idaho, El Paso, South Plains and Monroe College make up the women's Top 5.

The Hutchinson men are the second-highest ranked team in Region VI. Cloud County remains No. 1 in the nation. Allen is ranked No. 9, Colby is No. 10, Highland is No. 15 and Cowley is No. 22.

Cloud County, El Paso, Iowa Central, Central Arizona and Southern Idaho are the men's Top 5 this week.

The next rankings will be released on October 30.

The Blue Dragons are off this weekend in preparation for the Region VI Cross Country Championships on Saturday, October 26 in Iola.
