EMPORIA – Sophomore Sarah Patteson broke 20 minutes and led the No. 6-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's cross country team to a fifth-place finish Saturday morning at the Emporia State University Invitational at Jones Park.

Patteson ran the 5,000 meters in 19 minutes 56.2 seconds to lead Hutchinson Saturday. She was Hutch's only Top 20 runner.

The Blue Dragons had 167 team points. Southwest Baptist dominated the women's team race with 20 points.

Freshman Gabby Collins finished 28th overall with a time of 20.24.7. Saw Ahmara was 43rd in a time of 21:11.8. Macy Linenberger was 44th in 21:18.3 and America Garcia was 48th in 21:38.1.

This was Hutchinson's first race in three weeks since winning the Missouri Southern Stampede. Not in the lineup on Saturday was No. 1 runner Lisayo Ewoi, who missed the race with an injury.

Aileen Gomez placed 54th with a time of 21:43.3. Caitlin Schlickau was 73rd in a time of 22:43.7. Carissa Youngs was 87th in 22:56.6.

The Blue Dragons will run at the Fort Hays State Invitational next Saturday in Victoria.
