The nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College women's and men's cross country teams are finally back to work after three weeks off.

The Blue Dragons will compete at the Emporia State Invitational at Jones Park in Emporia on Saturday. The No. 6-ranked Blue Dragon women will run the 5K course at 9 a.m. The 10th-ranked Blue Dragon men will run their 8K race at 9:45 p.m.

The ESU Invitational will have 15 teams and 275 runners scheduled to compete in what is expected to be soggy, cool conditions with a better than 50-percent chance of rain falling at race time.

The last time the Blue Dragons were in competition was on September 15 at the Missouri Southern Stampede in Joplin, Missouri.

Hutchinson's women finished fourth overall and Lisayo Ewoi was the individual champion with a school-record 5,000-meter time of 18:29.1. The Blue Dragon women have a first- and fourth-place finish thus far in 2018 and maintained their No. 6 national ranking in the latest NJCAA/USTFCCCA rankings that were released on Wednesday.

Despite being 2 for 2 in winning team championships, the Blue Dragon men slipped five spots in the rankings to No. 10. Hutchinson Freshman Andrew Kibet dominated the Stampede field, winning his second-race of the season with an 8K time of 24 minutes, 42.6 seconds, the fifth-fastest performance in Blue Dragon men's cross country history.

Saturday will be the first time that Hutchinson has competed at the ESU Invitational since 2012.
