ROSWELL, N.M. – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team finished the New Mexico Military Institute Bronco Invitational 2-2 after a second-straight split on Saturday.
Hutchinson swept Pima Community College early Saturday morning 25-12, 25-22, 25-20. The Blue Dragons then fell in four sets to host New Mexico Military 22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 20-25.
Now 2-2, the Blue Dragons open the Jayhawk West and 2017 home season on Wednesday when Garden City comes to the Sports Arena for a 6:30 p.m. match.
Sophomore Page Hiebert was two kills shy of a double-double with eight kills and 11 digs to lead the Blue Dragons to a 3-0 victory over Pima
The Blue Dragons earned their second sweep of the tournament despite hitting only .146 as a team.
Freshman Raychel Reed had a team-high 15 digs. Ndekwe added three total blocks.
Trailing 2-1, the Blue Dragons looked destined to force a fifth set against the Broncos, leading the fourth set 11-5. But NMMI scored 20 of the final 29 points of the match and downed Hutchinson 3-1.
Hiebert pounded down a career-high 18 kills on .262 hitting. Hiebert collected her first double-double of the season with 12 digs and she had three ace serves to lead Hutchinson.
The rest of the Hutchinson offense struggled. Pevic was next with seven kills.
Jorn finished with 22 assists and eight digs. Gawith had 12 assists.
Reed led the Dragons with 14 digs. McKenna Sullivan added 12. Ndekwe had a team-high four blocks.
