This weekend's Region VI Outdoor Track and Field championships will mark the final time competing at Gowans Stadium for the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field sophomores.
For Hutchinson sophomore Alex Rodriquez, this weekend's championships end an eight-year run of competing at the home of the Blue Dragons.
The Blue Dragon All-American thrower also spent four years at Gowans Stadium as a member of the Hutchinson High School track and field team. Two years before that, Rodriguez competed for the HMS-7 and HMS-8 track teams.
Rodriguez enters the 2018 Region VI championships qualified for two events for the NJCAA championships. She is eighth in the NJCAA in the discus with a best throw of 145 feet, 11 inches. She is 11th in the hammer throw at 147 feet, 3 inches.
Not qualified in the shot put, Rodriguez is ranked 17th in the event with a top distance of 40-6 3/4.
Three-time national champion Adriana Janic is ranked in the Top 10 of three events. She is No. 1 in the 100-meter hurdles, fourth in the high jump and seventh in the long jump.
Freshman javelin thrower Quin McKinnis is the only other Top 10-ranked Blue Dragon at No. 6 in the javelin throw.
Hutchinson has eight national qualifiers heading into the regional championships.
