Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Last Thursday's neutral court loss to New Mexico Junior College didn't cause a major drop for the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team in Monday's NJCAA Division I Rankings.

Now 7-1, the Blue Dragons slipped two spots to No. 9 on Monday.

Hutchinson lost to then-No. 8 New Mexico 66-58 on Thursday and then defeated Iowa Western on its home floor 68-63 on Saturday. The Blue Dragons have been ranked in 24 consecutive rankings and for the 125th poll in the last 130 ranking periods.

By virtue of its win over Hutchinson on Thursday in Council Bluffs, Iowa, New Mexico remained at No. 8, one spot ahead of the Blue Dragons. New Mexico then lost to Iowa Western on Friday. The Reivers then fell to the Blue Dragons.

The Blue Dragons open Jayhawk Conference play on Wednesday against 10-0 Coffeyville at 5:30 p.m. at the Sports Arena.

The top four teams remained the same this week with defending national champion Gulf Coast State leading the way with all seven first-place votes. South Plains is No. 2, then Trinity Valley, Northwest Florida State and Shelton State.

Former No. 5 Seward County tumbled 12 spots to No. 17 after back-to-back losses.

Butler returns to the Top 25 this week at No. 25. Coffeyville is in the receiving votes list.

Former Blue Dragon opponent, Western Nebraska is now 7-1 and No. 11 in the latest rankings.
