Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Entering the Christmas break with a 12-0 record, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team reached its highest mark in the NJCAA rankings in two seasons on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons climbed one spot to No. 6 this week after a 60-49 Jayhawk Conference road victory at Cloud County last Wednesday.

The last time the Blue Dragons were ranked this high was the final rankings of 2017 when Hutchinson was ranked No. 2 heading into the NJCAA Tournament.

Hutchinson has been ranked in 113 of the last 118 ranking periods.

The Blue Dragons won two games over nationally ranked teams that still reside in the Top 25. The Dragons own wins over now No. 24 NEO (then No. 20) and No. 10 Butler (then No. 6) this season. The Blue Dragons have won their games by an average of 33.8 points per game.

Hutchinson will play host to Iowa Western and Ellsworth in the Polo Bar & Grill/Blue Dragon Holiday Classic on December 28 and 29 at the Sports Arena. Barton will be the fourth team in the Holiday Classic.

Northwest Florida State remained No. 1 this week with Trinity Valley, Tallahassee, Chipola and New Mexico Junior College rounding out the Top 5. Former No. 4 Shelton State dropped eight spots out of the Top 10 to No. 12.

Jayhawk Conference teams Butler is No. 10 and Seward County is No. 14 this week.
