Hutchinson CC Sports Information

With nine-straight victories to start the season by an average of 24.4 points per game, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team returns to the NJCAA Top 10 in the first Division I rankings of the season.

The 9-0 Blue Dragons moved up five spot to No. 8 when the first regular-season rankings were released on Tuesday.

This is the first Top 10 ranking for the Hutchinson women since being ranked No. 2 in the final rankings of the 2016-17 season. Last season, the Blue Dragons were ranked from out of the poll to as high as No. 12. The Blue Dragons finished at No. 19.

Hutchinson has been ranked in 111 of the last 116 ranking periods.

The Blue Dragons travel to Neosho County on Wednesday and then have a Top 10 national matchup on Saturday night when No. 6 Butler comes to the Sports Arena in a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

Hutchinson, Butler and Seward County are on the only Jayhawk Conference teams ranked in the first poll of the regular season.

Butler (11-0) tied for the biggest jump in the rankings, moving up 10 spots to No. 6. Seward County (7-2) dropped four spots to No. 14.

Preseason No. 1 New Mexico Junior College lost to unranked Central Arizona and fell to No. 7. Northwest Florida State takes over the No. 1 slot, with Trinity Valley, Tallahassee, Shelton State and Chipola filling out the Top 5.

Hutchinson has one victory over a Top 25 opponent this season. Hutchinson defeated then No. 16 NEO on November 10 in Great Bend. NEO is No. 25 this week.
