ODESSA, Texas – Freshman Trae McCrae was the Blue Dragons' top finisher as the No. 4-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team finished fifth at the NJCAA National Preview on Friday.
The Blue Dragons close the fall season with four Top 5 finishes, including two team championships, in five tournaments this season.
The Blue Dragons shot a 292 on Thursday and was just three shots off the team lead after one round. The Dragons were two strokes better in Friday's final round at 290, but Ranger shot 275 to pull away for a 16-stroke win over Midland and Odessa.
Hutchinson was the top District III team to finish at the Odessa Country Club, site of the 2020 NJCAA Division I Men's National Tournament. Indian Hills was sixth at 588, Iowa Western was ninth at 592 and Garden City was 12th at 610.
McCrae finished in a tie for 14th place individually with a 1-over 145. McCrae had rounds of 72 and 73.
Sophomore Charlie Crockett struggled on Friday after a 4-under 68 on Thursday. Crockett shot a 78 in the final round to finish tied for 17th at 146.
Sophomore Peyton Austin posted his first under-par round with a second-round 71 on Friday. He carded a 76 on Thursday and finished tied for 20th at 147.
Sophomore Nathan McCulloch had rounds of 76 and 73 to finish tied for 36th at 149. Kyle Klopper had rounds of 77 and 73 and tied for 36th at 150. Individual player Tyler Trudo was 54th at 156 after rounds of 80 and 76.
The Blue Dragons return to action in March.
