DRAGON GOLFERS CLOSE NATIONALS WITH BEST ROUND OF WEEK

GARDEN CITY – The Hutchinson Community College men's golf team finished off the 2017 NJCAA Men's Golf Championship with its best round of the week on Friday at Buffalo Dunes Country Club.

All four golfers whose scores counted on Friday all shot 3-over 75s as the Blue Dragons shot a tournament-low 300 to close out the 72-hole tournament.

With the Friday finish, the Blue Dragons finished 11th in the team race at 1,226. The Dragons were just six shots out of the Top 10 as Hutchinson was bidding for a third-straight Top 10 national finish.

Odessa College rallied from a one-stroke deficit to claim the national championship, defeating Indian Hills for the team championship. Odessa shot 293 to defeat Indian Hills by four strokes with an 1,166.

Doug Rios-Ceballos, Cole Gritton, Jack Lanham and Matt Percy all shot 75s on Friday.

Rios-Ceballos and Gritton were the highest-placing Blue Dragons in the final individual standings. Both shot307.

Lanham tied for 43rd with a 308. Wil Arnold, who shot an 83 on Friday, tied for 65th with a 72-hole total of 315. Percy closed out tied for 73rd at 318.
