Hutchinson CC Sports Information

A 16-point Jayhawk Conference road victory powered the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team to climb two spots in the first NJCAA Division I rankings of 2019.

The 13-2 Blue Dragons are now No. 12 in this week's rankings. Saturday's 102-86 win at Allen in Iola was Hutchinson's only action over the holiday break.

The Dragons have had a roller-coaster ride through the rankings this season. Starting at No. 9 in the preseason rankings, the Blue Dragons moved up as high as No. 7 after a 9-0 start to the season. Hutch then dropped a pair of its first five conference games to fall all the way to No. 14 in the final rankings of 2018.

The Blue Dragons extend their run of consecutive weeks in the NJCAA Rankings to 49. They have been rankings in 80 of the last 81 polling periods.

There is a new No. 1 team in Men's Division I this week. Vincennes University garnered all 16 first-place votes to move past South Plains for the No. 1 spot. The Top 5 was completely shaken up with it now Vincenees, South Plains, Florida SouthWestern, Ranger and John A. Logan.

There are three other Jayhawk Conference teams to be ranked or receive votes.

Coffeyville moved up two spots to No. 7 this week. Seward County came out of the receiving votes list and is ranked for the first time this season at No. 19. Barton is in the receiving votes list.

The Blue Dragons are off Wednesday and then begin a four-game-in-eight-day stretch with Cowley at the Sports Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
