The Hutchinson Community College football team wraps up the 2019 home schedule on Thursday night when the No. 3-ranked Blue Dragons play host to the RPA Wildcats.
Kickoff at Gowans Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
Thursday's game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 6:30 9.m. with Countdown to Kickoff. Glen Grunwald (play-by-play), Rob Dreher (color) and Randy McKay (sidelines) will call the action. The game will also be videostreamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The Blue Dragons look to complete the 15th undefeated home season in program history on Thursday night, the first since 2014. Hutch is 4-0 in home games this season.
Hutchinson head coach Rion Rhoades is a victory shy of moving up a rung on the Blue Dragon Coaching Wins ladder. Rhoades' next win will tie John Matous for second in all-time Hutch coaching wins. Rhoades brings a record of 96-49 on the Hutchinson sideline.
The Blue Dragons play their eighth all-time Thursday night game. Hutchinson is 7-0 in Thursday night games. The RPA game will be the second Thursday night game for Hutchinson this season. The Blue Dragons defeated Ellsworth 41-16 on August 22 to open the 2019 season.
Thursday will be the third-all-time meeting between Hutchinson and RPA. The Blue Dragons have defeated RPA by the scores of 91-0 in 2017 and 82-0 in 2018. The 91 points scored in 2017 was a national scoring record at that time.
The Blue Dragons are 49-16 all-time against non-NJCAA opponents.
Hutchinson enters Thursday's game after a dominant 85-3 victory over Dodge City last Saturday at Gowans Stadium. The Blue Dragons had 798 all-purpose yards against the Conquistadors, rolling up a school-record 301 return yards with three kickoffs or punts returned for touchdowns.
That victory added to a tremendous strength of schedule - Hutch five past or future opponents in the NJCAA Top 10 - helped the Blue Dragons climb past undefeated Lackawanna College into third in the latest rankings. The Mississippi playoffs will eliminate either Mississippi Gulf Coast or Northwest Mississippi in the race to finish Nos. 1 and 2 in the final NJCAA Rankings to decide the two teams for the NJCAA Championship game.
RPA Academy is a prep school located in Arlington, Texas. The Wildcats are 0-7 this season. The Wildcats have played three NJCAA teams - Cisco, Blinn and Trinity Valley. The Wildcats lost to Trinity Valley 70-7 in their last game 12 days ago.
After Thursday, the Blue Dragons travel to Garden City on Saturday, November 2 and to Iowa Central on Saturday, November 9.
