The Hutchinson Community College football team is less than a month away from opening preseason camp and already the Blue Dragons are being highly thought of in a couple of preseason polls.

Gridironrr.com has the Blue Dragons in at No. 8 in its preseason ranking. JC Gridiron has Hutchinson listed at No. 19 in its preseason Dirty 30.

Gridironrr.com ranks only NJCAA football programs, while JC Gridiron ranks both the NJCAA and California junior college programs.

The Blue Dragons enter the 2019 season coming off an 8-3 season, a runner-up finish in the Jayhawk Conference and a Salt City Bowl victory over Navarro College.

Head coach Rion Rhoades begins his 13th season on the Hutchinson sideline. He is 89-48 at Hutchinson and 96-53 overall.

Both preseason rankings have Iowa Western as the preseason No. 1 pick. The Blue Dragons travel to Council Bluffs, Iowa, this season to meet the Reivers on September 7.

The Jayhawk Conference and Iowa Conference are well represented in both preseason rankings.

Gridironrr.com has Iowa Western at No. 1, Garden City at No. 2, Independence at No. 6, Hutchinson at No. 8, Butler at No. 10, Iowa Central at No. 17, Highland at No. 21, Coffeyville at No. 24 and Fort Scott at No. 30.

The Dirty 30 has Iowa Western at No. 1, Garden City at No. 8, Butler at No. 11, Iowa Central at No. 17, Hutchinson at No. 19 with Highland on the bubble.

The Blue Dragons open the 2019 season on Thursday, August 22 at Ellsworth Community College.
