Hutchinson CC Sports Information

After two strong wins to open the 2018 season, the Hutchinson Community College football team jumps into the NJCAA Football Rankings after Wednesday's first regular-season poll was released.

The 2-0 Blue Dragons are ranked No. 11 this week, one of four Jayhawk Conference teams in the Top 20 and six receiving rankings recognition.

Hutchinson defeated Ellsworth 30-12 in the season opener on August 23 and then defeated then-No.5 Independence 37-27 on Saturday at Independence for its first win over a Top 5 team since 1995.

The Blue Dragons get another strong September test on Saturday when No. 2 Iowa Western comes to Gowans Stadium for a noon kickoff.

Hutchinson was receiving votes in the preseason NJCAA rankings, but makes the big jump into the rankings this week after two quality wins.

Garden City is the highest-ranked Jayhawk Conference team at No. 7. Independence falls from No. 5 to No. 13. Highland, now 2-0 after two close wins, is No. 18. Butler and Coffeyville are receiving votes in this week's rankings.

East Mississippi remains No. 1 this week with Iowa Western, Snow College, NEO and Northwest Mississippi rounding out the Top 5.
