Hutchinson Community College sophomore defensive back Adrien Cross became the 22nd Blue Dragon player in the Rion Rhoades era to earn All-America accolades.
The NJCAA released the 2017 All-America football team on Tuesday and Cross was on the honorable mention list.
Cross, a 5-foot-10, 192-pound safety from Brunswick, Georgia, was a two-year starter for the Blue Dragons. Cross, in a 2017, helped the Blue Dragons finish 7-5 overall and play in the 2017 Salt City Bowl.
This past season, Cross had 35 total tackles, including 26 solo stops. He had a season-high seven tackles against Eastern Arizona in the Salt City Bowl.
Cross also had 14 passes broken up with a season-high six against defending national champion Garden City on September 16 in Garden City. Cross had three interceptions for the season, second-most on the team.
The Blue Dragon sophomore safety was also tremendous against the run. Cross helped the Blue Dragons lead the Jayhawk Conference through the regular season in rush defense as Hutch was allowing just more than 90 rushing yards per game through the first 11 games of the season.
For his two-year career at Hutchinson, Cross had 93 total tackles, five interceptions, two fumble recoveries and 29 passes defensed.
Cross makes its 10-straight seasons that the Blue Dragons have had at least one player on the All-America list.
Cross was one of 10 Jayhawk Conference players to earn All-America honors.
