The Hutchinson Community College football team dropped one spot to No. 13 in this week’s NJCAA football poll, despite reeling off six-straight victories.
That sixth consecutive win came in a 37-14 triumph at Fort Scott on Saturday.
During Hutchinson’s winning streak, the Blue Dragons have outscored their opponents 55.8-15.3 and have averaged 586.2 yards while surrendering 269.5.
Regardless of the ranking, the Blue Dragons have an opportunity to capture the first Jayhawk Conference football championship since 1995 when the No. 2 Butler Grizzlies come to Gowans Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Saturday. Both teams are 6-0 in the Jayhawk Conference. The winner will win the league title and have home-field advantage throughout the Region VI playoffs, which begin on Nov. 4 at both Hutchinson and El Dorado.
The latest ranking marks the 37th-consecutive poll and the 46th time in the last 48 polls that the Blue Dragons have appeared in, a streak that dates back to 2008.
The Blue Dragons opened the season ranked No. 10 in the preseason poll and dropped to No. 14 after a loss to then-No. 12 Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Two weeks later, HCC climbed to No. 11 after victories over Garden City and Dodge City, but dropped back to No. 13 during its bye week after the Sept. 22 block of games.
Iowa Western, Butler, East Mississippi and Arizona Western maintained spots one through four.
