DODGE CITY – Freshman forward Danielle Sheehy scored her eighth hat trick of the season on Wednesday as the No. 7-ranked Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team rebounded from Sunday’s loss to Butler with a resounding 7-0 Jayhawk Conference victory over Dodge City at Memorial Stadium on a blustery Wednesday afternoon.

Hutchinson (14-1, 12-1 Jayhawk Conference) completes the regular season in second place in the Jayhawk Conference and will draw the No. 2 overall seed for the Region VI Tournament, which begins next week at Campus sites either Monday or Tuesday. HCC will play host to a first-round matchup, but the time, date and opponent have yet to be determined.

Sheehy had a three goals and an assist against Dodge City on Wednesday. The records she tied or broke are:

+ With 36 goals for the season, Sheehy ties the HCC single-season record for goals, tying teammate Melissa Hetherington.

+ With 90 points (36 goals, 18 assists), Sheehy broke the single-season points record.

+ This was her 12th multi-point game, which breaks a team record.

+ This was her 11th multi-goal game of the season, which breaks the career record. She already owns the single-season multi-goal record. The eight hat tricks are an on-going record.

Hetherington had a goal, her 20th of the season, and an assist against the Conquistadors (8-11, 5-7). She became only the second Lady Dragon soccer player ever to score 20 goals in each of her two seasons at HCC. The other was Caitlyn Coney. Hetherington is now tied for seventh on the single-season goals list.

Freshman Courtney Gahagan posted her first career multi-goal game with two goals on Wednesday. Sophomore Jamie Smith had a career-high three assists. Sophomore Andrea Thompson netted her second career game-winning goal with a tally just 1 minute, 9 seconds into the contest.

Battling a gusty north wind that was sustained around 30 mph; the Lady Dragons had trouble consistently controlling the ball in order to get into position to score. HCC still out-shot Dodge City 20-8 and 12-2 in shots on goal.

Going into that wind in the first half, HCC led 2-0 at halftime on goals by Thompson and Sheehy. The offense flowed much better in the second half with five tallies, two from Gahagan, two from Sheehy and Hetherington, which was her 56th career goal.

Sophomore Eunice Figueroa earned her 10th victory of the season and 23rd of her career, playing the first 59 minutes. She made two saves.

GAME NOTES – HCC is now 10-1 all-time vs. Dodge City, winning nine in a row. The only loss to Dodge City was a non-league game in 2005. … On the career lists, Sheehy ranks tied for fifth in career points, fifth in career goals and is tied for 10th in career multi-point game and assists (18). … HCC completes the regular season out-scoring its opponents 88-6 with 12 shutouts.
