The Hutchinson Community College women’s soccer team’s five-week run as the No. 1 women’s soccer team in the NJCAA came to an end on Wednesday.

The Lady Dragons’ 3-1 road loss at No. 6 Butler knocked Hutchinson down six spots this week in the NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Poll. The 13-1 Lady Dragons fell into a tie for seventh with Navarro College.

With the victory, Butler jumped two places to No. 4. Brevard Community College took over the top spot in the NJCAA poll this week.

HCC started the season ranked No. 9 in the preseason poll, but shot up to No. 3 before attaining the No. 1 spot on Sept. 12.

HCC has now been ranked in 11 consecutive polls, the longest run in the national poll in team history.

The Lady Dragons close out the 2012 regular season today at Dodge City and will play a Region VI opening-round game either Monday or Tuesday at the USD 308 Athletic Complex. Time and opponent are yet to be determined.
