With two more shutout victories, the Hutchinson Community College increased its hold on the No. 1 ranking in the latest NJCAA Women’s Division I soccer poll on Wednesday.

The Lady Dragons (9-0) earned all five first-place votes and increased its lead to eight points over new No. 2 Brevard Community College.

Hutchinson plays at Garden City later today.

Over the last rankings period, HCC blanked Barton 2-0 and Allen 5-0, both games being played on the road.

This is the third-straight week the Lady Dragons have held the No. 1 ranking in the poll. HCC started the season ranked No. 3 in the preseason poll, but shot up to No. 3 before attaining its current status two weeks ago. HCC has now been ranked in nine consecutive polls, the longest run in the national poll in team history.

Butler remained No. 6 in this week’s poll and Johnson County has fallen completely out of the poll.

A future Lady Dragon opponent is in this week’s rankings. Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa is ranked 13th with a 7-2 record. HCC and NOC will play on October 5 at 3 p.m. at the USD 308 Athletic Complex.
