IOLA – Freshman forward Danielle Sheehy posted her sixth hat trick and third four-goal game of the season in leading the No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College volleyball team to a 5-0 Jayhawk Conference victory over Allen Community College on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Dragons (9-0, 8-0 Jayhawk Conference) posted their eighth shutout of the season, out-shooting the Red Devils (1-7-1, 1-5-1) 30-4 and 15-1 in shots on goal. This was the 11th meeting in series history between Hutchinson and Allen and HCC has posted 11-straight shutouts.

While Sheehy had her third four-goal game and sixth game of eight points or more this season, sophomore midfielder Nicole Cronin became the 10th player in Lady Dragon soccer history to have four assists in a match.

Freshman Courtney Gahagan scored her second goal of the season and freshman Carolina Fernandez had her first assist of the season.

Sheehy now has 25 goals, including five game-winning goals and 64 points for the season. In just nine games, Sheehy is tied for third on the single-season goals list, is second on the single-season points list and is tied for third in game-winning goals in a single season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Soza (3-0) was credited with the victory. She made one save in the opening half. Sophomore Eunice Figueroa played the second half and didn’t see a shot.

Hutchinson led 2-0 at halftime with Sheehy scoring both – the first on a Fernandez assist in the sixth minute and the second from Cronin in the 37th minute.

Sheehy netted the hat trick in the 57th minute for a 3-0 lead on a Cronin assists. Cronin also assisted Gahagan’s goal for a 4-0 lead in the 60th minute and Sheehy’s fourth in the 84th minute.

Hutchinson will play at Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at Memorial Stadium.

GAME NOTES – It’s the second time this season an HCC player has had four assists in a game. The other was Sheehy. … Officially, the series record is 10-1 in favor of Hutchinson. The Lady Dragons had to forfeit an 8-0 victory last season because of an ineligible player. HCC has outscored Allen 72-0 all time. … HCC had 19 corners to none for Allen. … Allen goalkeeper Rebekah Zellers had 10 saves.
