Hutchinson Community College freshman forward Danielle Sheehy was named the Jayhawk Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, while Lady Dragon sophomore Eunice Figueroa was named the league’s goalkeeper of the week after strong performances last weekend.

Sheehy was named the conference’s player of the week for the second time this season.

Sheehy continued her tremendous start to the season, scoring eight goals in three games last week for No. 1 Hutchinson, scoring the game-winner against No. 19 Johnson County. Sheehy scored her fourth and fifth hat tricks of the season in road games against Hesston College and Pratt. Sheehy added a pair of assists and totaled eight points.

Figueroa, from Arlington, Texas, earned the second conference goalkeeper award in her Lady Dragon career.

Facing her toughest test of the season against No. 19 Johnson County, Figueroa came up big with three huge saves to preserve No. 1 Hutchinson’s victory over Johnson County. For the week, Figueroa was 3-0 with seven total saves. She tied a career high with five saves against Johnson County. She also earned victories over Hesston and Pratt.

Verizon and the Jayhawk Conference are in the third year of a partnership to honor the Jayhawk Conference’s weekly Players of the Week.

Both Sheehy and Figueroa are now eligible for NJCAA national player of the week. That award will be announced on Wednesday. Sheehy was the NJCAA Player of the Week on Sept. 6.
