
Hutchinson Community College freshman forward Danielle Sheehy was named the Verizon/Jayhawk Conference women’s soccer player of the week after a tremendous start to the season.
Sheehy, from Limerick, Ireland, became the first Lady Dragon soccer player in team history to post consecutive four-goal, 10-or-more-point games in season-opening victories over Neosho County and Kansas City last week.
For the week, Sheehy had eight goals on 16 shots with five assists and 21 points in her first two games at HCC.
In the season opener against Neosho County, a 7-0 victory for the No. 9 Lady Dragons, Sheehy put 10 shots on goal and netted four in her Lady Dragon debut. She added two assists for a 10-point game.
Just two days later against Kansas City, Sheehy scored three second-half goals to reach four tallies for a second-straight game. She also added three assists for 11 points, which tied for the second-most points in a single-game in team history. Sheehy took six shots in Hutchinson’s 15-0 victory.
Verizon and the Jayhawk Conference are in the third year of a partnership to honor the Jayhawk Conference’s weekly Players of the Week.
Sheehy s now eligible for NJCAA Division I Women’s Soccer national player of the week. That award will be announced on Wednesday.
HCC plays host to Cloud County at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at the USD 308 Athletic Complex.
