Hutchinson Community College freshman forward Alex Davis became the second Blue Dragon this season to be tapped the Verizon Wireless/Jayhawk Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Davis, a 6-foot-9 freshman from Houston, Texas, nearly posted a third-straight double-double in leading the Blue Dragons to a 71-60 victory over Barton on Saturday night at the Sports Arena, which was the Blue Dragons’ seventh-straight victory.
In Hutchinson’s lone game of the week, Davis came off the bench to score 14 points on 5 of 10 shooting. He had nine rebounds and five blocked shots.
Davis, who is averaging 11 points off the bench to this season, is among the Jayhawk Conference leaders in blocked shots and charges taken.
Davis joins sophomore Mark Braden as recipients of the Jayhawk Conference’s weekly honor. Braden earned his honor in November.
Davis is now eligible for NJCAA National Player of the Week honors. That will be announced on Wednesday. Verizon Wireless is in its second year of sponsoring the Jayhawk Conference Players of the Week.
