The City of Hutchinson landed another championship event as Hutchinson Community College was awarded the 2020 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Tuesday.

The 2020 championships will be May 14-16 at Gowans Stadium.

This will mark the seventh time that Gowans Stadium has served as the championship for Division I NJCAA Track and Field since it was renovated in 2006. HutchCC also served as the championship host in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

"Another great championship event will be coming to Hutchinson," Blue Dragon Athletic Director Josh Gooch said. "We are excited to have the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships return to Gowans Stadium in 2020. It's a tribute to all the people in our community who continually have helped make this a great event.

"Hutchinson Community College has an outstanding relationship with the NJCAA. Together we have worked to keep the great tradition of championship junior college events coming to Hutchinson."

The NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships is just one of more sports that have or contest championships in Hutchinson.

The City of Hutchinson has been home to the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship since 1949. That event has been at the Sports Arena since the building was opened in 1952.

The Sports Arena is also the current home of the of the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Championship.

Gowans Stadium has also been the site of the Salt City Bowl football game since 2009.

The City of Hutchinson has also been the site of the NJCAA Division I Softball Championships in the mid-1990s.

In March, Hutchinson Community College was named the host of the KSHSAA Class 3A/4A Volleyball Tournament. The Sports Arena has been a site for the state high school basketball tournaments for 75 years.
